Dissolve 1 tsp sugar in 1/2 cup warm water. Sprinkle in yeast. Let stand 10 min, stir well. Combine milk, butter, 2 tbsp sugar, salt and 1/2 cup warm water. Add this to dissolved yeast and add 2 cups flour. Beat until smooth and elastic. Stir in 2 1/2 cups remaining flour gradually until flour no longer sticks to side of bowl. Dump onto floured surface. Knead dough until dough is smooth and elastic and no longer sticky. Place in lightly greased bowl and turn over to grease the top. Cover with tea towel and wait until doubled (45-60 min). Punch down, turn out onto floured board and divide into 2 parts. Cover and let rise for 10 minutes. Shape into a loaf and place seam side down into 8 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 2 3/4" loaf pan, cover with tea towel and wait until it rises 3 cm (45-60 min). Preheat oven to 400°F and bake on lower oven rack for 25-30 minutes. Remove from pans immediately. Brush top with butter for soft crust.
