Cream shortening, add sugar gradually. Cream well. Blend in corn syrup. Then gradually add the well beaten egg and melted chocolate. Sift flour, salt and baking soda together, stirring into creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Blend in chopped nuts with last addition of flour mixture. Drop by teaspoonfuls on a heavy greased baking sheet. Bake at 400°F for 12-15 minutes.
